LITERATURE: FILMS, Part 1 - Grade 9, 2011-2012

1.  Film:  Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

~  BBC Production (1995 TV series), 300 mins.  (5 hours viewing + 1 hours of discussions / explanations in between = 6 hours)


2.   Film:  Ben-Hur  (1959)

~  Total time viewed:  1 1/2 hours

~  Director: William Wyler
~  Actors:   Charlton Heston, Stephen Boyd and Jack Hawkins
~  When a Jewish prince is betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend, he regains his freedom and comes back for revenge.


3.  Film:  The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)

~  Total time viewed:  4 hours
~  Actors:  Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland and Basil Rathbone


5.  Film:  Prince Valiant  (1954)

~  Total time viewed:   2 hours
~  Nothing great.


6.   Film:  A Night to Remember   (1958)

~  Total time viewed:  4 hours 
~  The Titanic disaster is depicted in straightforward fashion without the addition of fictional subplots.

      

7.  Film:   The Sea Hawk  (1940)

~  Total time viewed:  2 hours, 15 mins.
~  Actor:  Errol Flynn 
~  Geoffrey Thorpe, a buccaneer, is hired by Queen Elizabeth I to nag the Spanish Armada. The Armada is waiting for the attack on England and Thorpe surprises them with attacks on their galleons where he shows his skills on the sword.  Written by R. Kessen 


8.   TV Series:  Get Smart  (1965–1970)

~  Total time viewed:  A lot of episodes~  Bumbling Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 for CONTROL, with a great deal of help from his competent partner Agent 99, battles the forces of KAOS. 



9.   Film:  Secretariat (2010)

~  Total time viewed:  2 hours
~  Penny Chenery Tweedy and colleagues guide her long-shot but precocious stallion to set, in 1973, the unbeaten record for winning the Triple Crown.
